The Chamber run a members' councils (a strategic lobbying/campaigning group) and sector-specific forums in both counties to support the operating conditions of our Membership. Contact John Dowson (Nottinghamshire) or Nick Chischniak (Derbyshire) on 0333 320 0333.
Members of EMC can join our members councils - as noted above. The Chamber also circulates a Quarterly Economic Survey to members. As well as providing a true barometer of changing operating conditions, the results of the survey also serve to influence our activities. We embellish this survey every quarter by asking for more detail on a key topical issue to inform our campaigning on behalf of our membership. The more members that complete this survey when it is issued, the better informed the Chamber will be about member issues. In addition, keep an eye out on the new website as there will be occasional quick polls which will be used to collate views about particular topical issues throughout the year. You may wish to join a sector-specific forum (eg HR, Engineering/Manufacturing) or air your views at our monthly MP Breakfast Briefings. We also invite our members to meet with key players like the Bank of England at special one-off events; and also have debate events on critical issues where the business community can engage with the key stakeholders involved.
For more information contact John Dowson (in Nottinghamshire) or Nick Chischniak (in Derbyshire) on 0333 320 0333.
The Chamber is currently lobbying on a wide range of issues in both counties. These include implementation of the workplace parking levy in Nottingham, liaising with Derby City Council on congestion and traffic management issues, and addressing the skills-gap to help employers recruit appropriate staff more effectively. We also strive to improve the transport infrastructure to help improve inward investment, reduce levels of cumbersome red tape and bureaucracy for our members, and make business crime a higher priority with the police - taking into account new concerns such as internet fraud and identity theft. This in turn feeds-into our involvement as active members of the East Midlands Business Crime Forum.
The Chamber is not an organisation that has grant funding available, however we are often advised of funding available (and highlight this through our monthly Members' Brief), and can signpost members to other support organisations that may be able to help.
The Chamber is approached daily by a wide range of companies who would like to work with the Chamber and regretfully it is not possible to partner with, or buy from all of those companies. The Chamber works with preferred suppliers and these are reviewed from time to time. At this time the Chamber will always approach its Membership and where relevant, will offer them the opportunity to tender to become a preferred supplier/partner or to tender to contract for other areas of service delivery.
With regard to Events and Business Training seminars, where a Member company feels that they can complement or add value to the events calendar or Business Training directory then a written proposal can be submitted to Rachael Buxton (seminars or events) or Vicki Thompson (training).
Most of the EMC events are open to Members only, although selected events may be open to non members. Non members can pay to attend events but will need to join in order to be able to attend any more than this.
Approximately 3,800 businesses of all sizes and sectors are Members of EMC. EMC is the second largest Chamber in the country by Membership.
