Flurry drives pledges in 300-in-100 campaign

Posted on May 10th, 2013

George CowcherGreat news on the 300-in-100 campaign...

A sudden flurry of interest has moved the total so far to about 150 pledges with 40 days still to go.

But we have reason to believe there could be another 30 or so pledges about to be announced.

That will place us ahead of target.

It shows that when organisations such as the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, Nottingham Post, National Apprenticeship Service, Nottingham: City and County Employment and Skills Board and Nottingham City Council work together we can really Get Notts Working!

George Cowcher, Chief Executive of DNCC, said: "Apprenticeships are, without a doubt, the best way for employers to teach young people the practical skills that their businesses need. They can often be thought of as old, but they are also about new and future ideas.

"The business benefits are simple. Apprentices, in general, tend to be keen, bright, motivated, enterprising and willing to learn. They make things happen and help to keep businesses moving. These are exactly the type of people that we need at a time when the business sector is being relied upon to create the growth needed to sustain and secure the economic recovery.

"Apprenticeships are an essential part of creating the capable workforce our economy demands. Having good calibre, highly-skilled young employees is the key to giving the business sector a sustainable future, so it is important for all businesses to sign up to the 300-in-100 Campaign, pledge to create an Apprenticeship placement and help develop the next generation of business leaders.

"To have achieved so many pledges so quickly and to know there are more coming is excellent news."
